#5 - Archaeopteryx: The Missing Link
n      In 1861 Hermann von Meyer described a fossil that appeared to be intermediate between reptiles and birds, calling it Archaeopteryx (“ancient wing”).  The fossil had wings and feathers, but it also had teeth, a long lizard-like tail, and claws on the wings.  A more complete specimen (“Berlin specimen”) was found in 1877.  This is the “missing link” that confirmed the theory of evolution for many people
