nThe dissimilarity of early embryos has been well-known  for more than a century.
n  Haeckel’s drawings are misleading in three ways:
nThey include only those classes and orders that come closest to fitting Haeckel’s theory
nThey distort the embryos they purport to show
nThey entirely omit earlier stages in which vertebrate embryos look very different
