Arguments for God’s Existence
nThe Cosmological Argument - everything has a cause; God is the initial “First Cause”
nThe Moral Argument - our sense of moral values points to the existence of a moral Creator
nThe Teleological Argument - evidence of design and purpose in the world point to intelligent creation, as a watch indicates a watchmaker
Note that neither the Bible nor Jesus try to prove the existence of God - they assume it
There are three major evidences for the existence of God that people throughout time have argued from.
It is a scientific fact that every action has a cause. When we extend this idea into the past we realize there must have been a “first cause”. We label this first cause “God”. However, some will say that the universe has always existed, thereby eliminating the need for a first cause.
People have a built-in sense of moral values. Naturalistic evolution has a difficult time explaining why this should be so.
The most common argument used today is the overwhelming evidence of design, function, and purpose in the natural world. The fact that conscience, thinking people even exist would seem to settle the case. To believe that the energy and matter of a “big bang” produced people all on its own requires tremendous faith which is not warranted by the scientific evidence. This fact is so obvious that the Bible never tries to prove that God must exist, for how could it be otherwise?
