The Apostle Paul’s Experience
nActs 28:23b-27: From morning till evening he [Paul] explained and declared to them the kingdom of God and tried to convince them about Jesus from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets. Some were convinced by what he said, but other would not believe. … (As the Holy Spirit through Isaiah said) “You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes.”
Many of us can see the evidences for God so clearly, and wonder “why doesn’t everyone see this?” We excitedly tell others about God or Jesus, or about the remarkable scientific proof described later, only to be met by rejection. The same thing happened to the apostle Paul. Some were persuaded but others “would not believe”. Was it because the facts presented were incorrect? No. The Holy Spirit long ago described the state of many of the people of that time, and unfortunately nothing has changed. They hear the words being said but it has no influence on them because they don’t want it to.
