Speakers And Topics
Larry Vardiman
Larry Vardiman is a creation scientist and educator with a Ph. D. in Atmospheric Science from Colorado State University. He served as the chairman of the Department of Astro-Geophysics at the Institute for Creation Research’s Graduate School since 1989 and has authored many technical papers and books including overseeing the editing of the book, “Radioisotopes and the Age of the Earth.” Dr. Vardiman’s ability to converse in technical terms about creation science and also being able to communicate with the lay person has allowed God to use him in many ways — from the classroom to the great outdoors as a tour guide, to the radio waves on ICR’s program, Science, Scripture and Salvation. Much of Dr. Vardiman’s scientific contributions have been in the areas of cloud seeding, ice crystal growth and evolution, the age of the earth’s atmosphere, ice sheet formation during the Ice Age, and catastrophic hurricane formation. Dr. Vardiman has also authored a book discussing creation science from a layperson’s standpoint. Entitled Over the Edge, the book chronicles his more humorous experiences as a tour guide on ICR’s Grand Canyon tours.
The Creation Of The World: Understanding Gen. 1:1 is a word-by-word exposition of Genesis 1:1 from a young-earth creationist perspective. How the Bible describes the creation of mass, space, and time. The theology of God, the creation of everything from nothing, and a taste of Hebrew will be addressed.
Radioisotopes And The Age Of The Earth: The Earth’s Young After All is a discussion of the results of an 8-year rarch project to explain the billions of years for the age of the earth estimated from radioisotope dating and the thousands of years given in the Bible. Three major evidences for a young earth will be presented—(1) an alternative helium diffusion method of dating the earth associated with the decay of uranium to lead in granite, (2) accelerated decay rates inferred by radiohalos found in granite, and (3) the presence of radioactive carbon in coal and diamonds.
Steven Austin
Steven Austin is a field research geologist with a Ph.D. from Penn State University in sedimentary geology. He is “Senior Research Scientist” with Institute for Creation Research in Dallas, Texas. He has performed geologic research on six of the seven continents of the world. His research adventures have taken him by helicopter into the crater of Mount St. Helens volcano, by bush plane onto glaciers in the high mountains of Alaska, by raft through the entire Grand Canyon, on horseback into the high Sierra, by elevator into the world’s deepest coal mines, by SCUBA onto the Great Barrier Reef of Australia, by rail into the backcountry of Korea, by foot onto barren plateaus of southern Argentina, and by four-wheel drive into remote desert areas of Israel, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. He is the author of three books, three videos, one computer software package, and more than thirty technical geology papers.
Dr. Austin’s field research within Grand Canyon includes over 400 nights camped out below the Canyon’s rim. He has launched 22 raft trips within Grand Canyon. He has explored very remote areas of Grand Canyon by mule, helicopter and ATV. His book “Grand Canyon: Monument to Catastrophe” and his DVD “Grand Canyon: Monument to the Flood” summarize his investigations. He has over ten technical papers on Grand Canyon. Subjects of his technical publications on Grand Canyon include lava dams, breached dams, fossils, limestones, sandstones, basalts, diabase sills and radioisotope dating. He is widely known for his discovery of the regionally extensive mass-kill and burial bed within the Redwall Limestone about 2000 feet below the Canyon’s rim.
Geology And The Global Flood: Scripture describes a global flood in no uncertain terms. All major mountains of the world have fossil of sea creatures in very widespread sedimentary strata at high elevations. Five affirmations about geologic processes form the framework for understanding the geologic features of the earth: (1) sedimentation, (2) tectonics, (3) erosion, (4) volcanism, and (5) exponential decline. Catastrophic flood tectonics and sedimentation were followed by great volcanic events and colossal sheet-flood and channelized erosion. These global geologic processes have declined into the slower processes we see in the present world. Scripture forms the framework for interpreting the geology of the world we see.
Catastrophic Plate Tectonics: A Global Flood Model For Earth History: How did the catastrophic sedimentary and tectonic processes associated with the global flood form the world we see? Catastrophic plate tectonics was the theory devised by creationists 150 years ago to explain the geology of continents and ocean basins. Lately, creationists have modeled the ocean-floor upheaval that initiated the flood, subducted the pre-flood ocean floor, and propelled the oceans over the continents. Subduction of the pre-flood ocean floor moved continents into their present positions, and enlarged and deepened ocean basins. Major mountain ranges are the product of plate collisions. Left over heat and global cooling following the flood created the rapid post-flood ice age and Earth’s modern climate.
The Search for Sodom And Gomorrah: The lost cities are linked biblically to the region occupied by the “cities of the plain.” The key to locating the “cities of the plain” is to find the surviving city of Zoar . These cities must be southeast of the Dead Sea in the vicinity of modern Safi in the country of Jordan . Spectacular archaeological sites (Early Bronze III) exist that date to the time of Abraham. These cities show evidence of catastrophic collapse and burn. The cities were not rebuilt. The evidence points to a regional shaking event and a regional fire, even outside the walls of fortified cities. A regional earthquake associated with natural gas eruption and atmospheric ignition is the favored scenario for the natural/supernatural disaster. Those cities became famous for the nature of human wickedness, the swiftness of God’s judgment and the deliverance of the righteous.
Mount St. Helens Field Trip: See and experience the most significant geologic event of the twentieth century. See and understand geologic processes that created a new landscape and transformed geologists’ ways of thinking about how the Earth formed. We overlook the largest debris avalanche deposit to have formed within human history. Talking points are rapid strata formation, rapid erosion and log deposits of Spirit Lake . The field trip begins with an orientation lecture at the Seven Wonders Museum followed by a five-mile hike from Johnston Ridge Observatory to an overlooks of the valley of the North Fork of the Toutle River and Spirit Lake. Cost is $35. View details.

He is firmly committed to researching and teaching creation apologetics and speaks periodically at churches, schools, and creation organizations in the Northwest United States. He is the founder of the Northwest Creation Network and the CreationWiki internet encyclopedia where he serves as senior administrator. He also organizes the Seattle Creation Conference.
Wonders Of The Cell: Cell biology provides many extraordinary examples of intelligent design. Inside each and every organism resides biomechanical systems and molecular machines that Darwin and his contemporaries could never have imagined. Even today, much of what is happening inside cells is still not understood and yet evolutionists hold fast that these remarkable constructs developed without God. These two contrasting views of the cell provide poignant illustration of how worldviews impact our interpretation of physical evidence. This presentation will discuss the cell as it relates to these opposing views and describe some of these important cellular features, which offer testimony to the glory of the Creator.
Amazing Animals: Design vs. Darwinism: What would the Earth be like without animals? They are indeed a very special part of the creation that provide endless fascination and bring much love into our lives. Unknown animals are discovered each year and the complicated world of these creatures has been made clearer by recent scientific discoveries. This presentation will focus on the amazing gifts of animals that illustrate the ingenuity of their design and creative power of our Father in heaven.

Stan Lutz
Mr. Lutz has been to Peru and seen many of the burial sites and stones of Ica. The stones indicate that ancient man knew what dinosaurs looked like. They show man had very high degrees of technology. Mr. Lutz has been to the Cabrera Museum in Ica, Peru where there are over 11,000 stones. He has flown over the Nazca Lines and photographed many of the features that show their relationship to the stones. He has been to many of the ruins and has seen firsthand the superior technology of the ancient Peruvians.
Ica Stones: The Ica stones are a collection of over fifteen thousand carved stones discovered in the vicinity of Ica, Peru. The Ica stones display images ranging from dinosaurs to telescopes to open-heart surgery. The images on the stones were apparently created in pre-Columbian times and buried in a large number of tombs alongside Native American mummies.
